on Trosper is the Public History Manager of the Olympia Tumwater Foundation. His presentation will give an overview of the history of this first permanent U.S. community in what is now Washington State. He'll briefly highlight the journey of the founders of Tumwater and will share the importance of the water-driven industry on the Deschutes River, the arrival of Bing Crosby's ancestors, the building of the narrow-gauge railroad from Olympia to Tenino to provide rail service for the territorial capitol of Olympia. You will also learn about the Schmidt family and the formation of the brewery that made Tumwater and Olympia famous, the Olympia Brewing Company. Don will then bring us up to the present and talk about the future vision for the city.
