You will go over the music for the term, talk further about the levels of performing opportunities, discuss scheduling, and answer any questions that you may have! Community members can engage at 3 different levels:

Level 2 - Chorus
The chorus will be off-book for the entirety of the numbers that they are in. Chorus members need to be willing to learn blocking and choreography as needed.
Level 3 - Soloist
Front and center is where you will be! With lots of solo opportunities this term, you may find yourself singing and/or dancing in the front of the scene that’s being played out. All solos will be off-book. Solos will be auditioned during week 3 of rehearsal.

Jan 18    Revisiting the Founding Era: What Teachers Never Told Us About the American Revolution
Discover the American Revolution you never learned about in school. Why did Native Americans and African Americans support the British? How did a Muslim general come to fight the British with a French ally named Admiral "Satan"? Why did the fighting spread around the world, from Hudson Bay to South America, India to Africa, Arkansas to Gibraltar?

Author Don Glickstein explores rarely heard perspectives on the war in his illustrated talk, and links aspects of the war to our home state of Washington. Hear stories from the war, discover the reasons the Revolution matters to us today, and learn why the study of history can help us understand the 21st century's war on terrorism.

Revisiting the Founding Era is a three-year national initiative of The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, presented in partnership with the American Library Association and the National Constitution Center, with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The grant provides 100 public libraries across the country the opportunity to use historical documents to spark public conversations about the Founding Era’s enduring ideas and themes and how they continue to influence our lives today.

Jan 26    Prokofiev "Peter & The Wolf"

"Peter and the Wolf" is a musical fairytale. It isn’t an opera (there’s no singing) and it isn’t a ballet (although it can be performed that way); nor is it a play (there are no actors). Instead it’s a musical tale in which the orchestra tells the story, helped along by a narrator – in our case, Jeff Slakey from iFiberOne News Radio.

Prokofiev wrote "Peter and the Wolf" to help children get to know the instruments of the orchestra. So this fantastic tale with its charming music has an ulterior motive. Each character in Prokofiev’s musical fairytale is represented by a different instrument of the orchestra: the bird by a twittering flute, the duck by a plangent oboe, the cat by a mellifluous clarinet, Peter’s grumpy grandfather by a bassoon, the dreaded wolf by three horns, and Peter by all the strings of the orchestra playing a jaunty march tune. The timpani (or “kettledrums”) have their part to play when the hunters turn up, shooting their rifles.

"Peter and the Wolf" was an immediate success with the toughest critics of all: children. Prokofiev wrote the story himself and, since he had two sons of his own, he knew how to capture the childish imagination by making Peter a bold but rebellious hero: “Peter paid no attention to his grandfather. Boys like him are not afraid of wolves.”

Jan 29    Anna's Bay Chorale Winter/Spring 2019 Term: Musical Theater!
Come join Anna's Bay Chorale for the kick-off of their spring term! This is a great opportunity, especially for those who are undecided about participating, to come and check out what we are doing! You will go over the music for the term, talk further about the levels of performing opportunities, discuss scheduling, and answer any questions that you may have! We accept ages 14+ into this choir.

Anna’s Bay Chorale will be performing musical theatre for their 2019 Winter/Spring term! This term offers community members an opportunity to perform both classic and modern pieces of musical theatre, and is designed to accommodate any level of performer. Community members can engage at 3 different levels:
Level 1 - Support Choir
The support choir will be able to utilize their sheet music as they provide vocal support to the performance. There will not be choreography or blocking involved for the support choir, and support choir members can choose to sit or stand to accommodate their needs.
