about us

The Mason County Museum is located in teh historic library building at Fifth Street and Railroad Avenue in downtown Shelton. This building, built in 1914 as a town hall and library, is on the Shelton, State and National historical registers and is well suited to serve as a historical museum for Mason County. It is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Mason County Historical Society also has a museum located on the County Fairgrounds. It is open for special events including the Mason County Fair and Oysterfest as well as other events held throughout the year at that facility. The exhibits feature logging, farming and oystering, all important to the history of Mason Couny. Various rural 1930's exhibits are included as well as a model railroad depicting early railroading in the area.

Arrangements can be made for group to visit to either of the museums by calling 426-1020 weekdays. There is no admittance fee for either museum, however donations are gratefully accepted.

Becoming a Member:
Membership is open to all. We have members nationwide. you become a member of the Mason County Historical Society immediately upon payment of dues. Membership includes voting rights, eligibility to hold office, and to participate in activities as specified in our Constitution and Bylaws. All Members receive a newsletter describing activities and coming events of the Society as well as a 10% discount on all puchases at the museum.
