About Us

Mason County PUD No. 1 was the first public utility district in Washington State, incorporated in 1932 and beginning operations in February of 1935. Located in Potlatch along the beautiful Hood Canal, PUD 1 serves approximately 5,100 electric customers, 1,900 water customers and manages one small community septic system.

Our electric service district reaches from the Skokomish Valley, across to Union and onward north into Jefferson County into Walker Mountain. However, as the largest water purveyor in Mason County, PUD 1 also manages water systems throughout the entire county, into East Grays Harbor.

We employ 22 full time employees and have three locally-elected commissioners that set policy for the public utility district. Our commission meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. at the District office in Potlatch. Members of the public are invited and welcome to attend.
